Enzyme specialists, Biocatalysts Ltd, announce the launch of their new enzyme, Promod® 128L, developed specifically with a unique formulation of endopeptidase activities for the effective hydrolysis of extracted collagen in producing neutral tasting collagen peptides.
Growth in the gelatin and collagen markets is driven by an increasing consumer awareness of the health and nutritional benefits of collagen, and the broad functionality of gelatin and collagen making it suitable for a wide range of applications such as pharmaceuticals, supplements, and biomaterials.
Promod® 128L (P128L) has a broad substrate specificity and is highly effective in achieving a high degree of hydrolysis of extracted collagen. Designed specifically with an optimised ratio of proteolytic activities, Promod® 128L can produce smaller collagen peptides whilst maintaining a neutral and non-bitter taste, making them suitable for use in a wide range of different industrial applications. Extensive hydrolysis improves the solubility and reduces the viscosity of extracted collagen improving its functionality and processibility. Enzymatic degradation of extracted collagen breaks down the complex protein structure producing peptides with a significantly lower molecular weight in comparison to native collagen. Reducing the molecular weight of the collagen increases it’s digestibility in nutritional applications and absorbability in cosmetic applications, producing higher value collagen peptides.
